Raise Safety Culture Awareness: Housekeeping

Dear Captains,

The importance of good housekeeping in the prevention of accidents and conditions likely to be injurious to health should be given proper priority in the training of every member of the crew until its acceptance becomes second nature.

As per below graph extracted from the last EMS Report based on analysis of all hazardous occurrances reports received. We have identify sector which can be improved in order to overtake  this weak point of the Poor Housekeeping.

It is well known to all crew that the practice and the storage of all unused items, tools & collect of garbage which is a fire imminent. The vessel for a long period is like our homes and we are responsible for the housekeeping and the prevention of any dangers and unfortunate situations.

Additional pls note that all flammable equipment should be stored inside the designated protected with sprinkler areas and below of the sprinkler nozzle level and with the covers in position or in case of garbage’s such as oily rugs into specific places were constructed for these items.

Clean machinery spaces allow one to detect leaks and other defects that may potentially lead to bigger accidents. Moreover, regular cleaning preserves the value of the ship and ensures compliance in today’s regulatory environment.

Vessel hygiene to prevent COVID-19 spread

During the COVID-19 pandemic, more than ever maintaining a good housekeeping onboard can help prevent the virus spread, which are important to follow in general for a safe workplace onboard a vessel.

Housekeeping  a well-kept vessel is sure to make a good first impression during port state control or vetting inspections, ISM audits and condition surveys.

Pls instruct relevant and responsible crew for implementation and/or  further actions on board and avoid re occurrence. Also frequently inspections should be carried out for compliance.
