We are proud to announce Empire 2nd  photo contest with the theme “Life through our eyes in the Age of Lockdown”.  The world is experiencing the biggest media epidemic that humanity has known and it’s now more than ever evident that it’s far from over.  We invite you to share your experiences of life during the COVID-19 pandemic as you have captured or will capture though the lens while onboard, work or leisure time. Life can have it’s positives and negatives in such times and it’s important to capture and remember all, as they are testament of the present and a snapshot of history.

China increases fines for breaches of Safe Navigation from 1st Sept 2021

The Maritime Traffic Safety Law of the People’s Republic of China (MTSL) is the primary law regulating maritime traffic safety in the sea areas within the jurisdiction of the People’s Republic of China. The latest amendments to the MTSL will come into effect on September 1, 2021.

Namely, under the new law, the penalties for various breaches of the safety of Navigation requirements have been increased.

To remind, the amended Maritime Traffic Safety Law of China will come into effect on 1st September 2021. It provides a systematic administration of maritime traffic safety in China, while also increases the penalties of various breaches of safe navigation.

USCG Safety Alert 05-21 - Corroded Turntable Pins Can Cause Structural Failure On Accommodation Ladders

A recent marine casualty resulting in an injury of a crewmember onboard a foreign freight vessel brought to light a potentially dangerous situation involving the turntable pin on accommodation ladders. Currently, there are no established timelines or requirements to replace turntable pins. Without proper and periodic examination and replacement, corrosion can ultimately lead to structural failure.

Incident Alert Incidents at Manila Anchorage Areas, the Philippines

During January-August 2021, a total of eight incidents of armed robbery against ships occurred at Manila Anchorage areas in the Philippines. The location of all the eight incidents is at South Harbour Anchorage Area of Manila.
