The results of the latest Seafarers Happiness Index show a further drop in seafarer happiness for the fourth quarter of 2023, raising serious concerns over conditions for all those working at sea.
The inability to concentrate on the task at hand is one of the maladies of our time. Multitasking and social media can cause distractions during work onboard. However, for safety reasons, crew members should avoid distractions and improve their focus and productivity.
The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (UK MCA) has published a section in their Leading for Safety guidance, looking at why accidents happen, what really causes them and what we can do to create a safety culture in an organisation.
Continuous attacks in the Red Sea area have been raising concerns for the integrity of crew and vessels transiting the area, forcing organisations and legislative bodies such as the EU Parliament and the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) to contemplate action.
