OCIMF: Second phase of SIRE 2.0 is now underway

The Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) has successfully completed the first phase of the ‘four-phased’ roll-out and testing of the digitalised tanker inspection regime, SIRE 2.0, which will replace all existing SIRE inspections for tankers.

BALLAST OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE PRACTICE

Brittania P&I has reported on several pollution incidents been reported to them involving the accidental transfer of cargo into an adjacent ballast water tank. The main causes are pitting or corrosion of cargo tanks which results in cargo being flushed out during ballast water operations. These incidents have highlighted the importance of crew awareness of ballast principles and best practices. In this guidance we will explore best ballast practice and how to maintain ballast tanks to prevent such claims.

Damage to coral reefs caused by anchoring outside designated anchorage

Vessels should not anchor outside designated anchorage areas in regions where coral reefs are known to exist to avoid damaging them and being exposed to fines by authorities.
